If you’re not familiar with Dole Whip, it’s a dairy-free pineapple sorbet, with the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. It’s amazingly delicious! It’s also pretty difficult to come by, unless you’re visiting Disneyland or the Dole Plantation in Hawaii. (Though, I hear they are going to be offering it at other locations, too!)
What is Dole Whip Made Of?
The Dole whip you can buy at Disneyland is made with sugar, coconut oil, natural and artificial flavors (including pineapple juice), and lots of stabilizers. This allows it be mixed with water and come out of a soft serve machine, but it’s not exactly something you want to replicate at home.
Is Dole Whip Vegan?
Dole Whip is dairy-free and vegan, which is probably one of the reasons it’s so popular. Even with dietary restrictions, most family members can enjoy it!
How To Make Dole Whip at Home
Calling for just three ingredients, this homemade Dole Whip couldn’t be easier to prepare. It doesn’t have the exact same texture as the original, but you can pipe it into a glass for a similar effect! Plus, you’ll avoid the long wait line at Disneyland.
Combine the frozen pineapple with the almond milk and honey, then blend until a frozen sorbet texture is achieved. (My kids also love it when I make this with orange juice instead of the milk and honey– no extra sweetener is needed when you use the OJ.)
For an authentic Dole Whip presentation, transfer the frozen dessert to a large plastic bag, and cut off the tip to create a piping bag. Pipe the pineapple whip into 4-6 dishes, and serve immediately!
Any leftovers can be frozen in an ice cube tray, and used in smoothies later.

Recipe Notes:
- If you make this recipe with orange juice instead of almond milk, you won’t need any added sweetener. My kids love it this way!
- For a Pina Colada flavor, try using coconut milk as this liquid.

Reader Feedback: Have you ever tried Dole Whip?
Curious how you make your own almondmilk.
Here are directions to make your own almond milk: http://bit.ly/1GBFldl
I added a frozen banana instead of honey for the sweetness. It also added a creaminess to it that made the consistency exactly like soft serve ice cream!! So delicious and healthy! I will be making this more often 🙂

This inspired me to make a similar version. I took vanilla Greek yogurt and mixed frozen fruit (peaches, strawberries, mango and pineapple) my son had no idea he was eating healthy ice cream. Was really delicious. Can’t wait to try your pineapple whip sounds awesome.
Has anyone tried it in just a regular blender? Does it work?
Thanks
If you have a food processor, that works! I’m not sure a regular blender could get it smooth enough, though.
No, but a juicer achieves the same effect with just frozen pineapple. Frozen banana alternated with froz. pineapple is visually interesting and delicious!
What would I be looking at in carbs and calories. The Dole Whip sounds wonderful. Being diabetic, I’m counting carbs everyday. Thanks
Looks delicious. I’ve never had the real thing but might give this a try anyway.
This looks great. You can also get authentic Dole Whip at Jumping Jacks in Scotia, NY (Just over the bridge from Schenectady) during the late spring and summer months when they are open. Sadly, I’ve moved quite far away so I will have to try this recipe when I’m missing a bit of home.
So awesome! Thanks for the recipe. I plan on using it after I return from my trip. I have gout, and one of the big pieces to helping gout is the active ingredients in Pineapple. You bet, I’ll try this! 😀 Thanks so much for such a simple recipe!!!!
Very yummy! Used coconut milk in a can and used my food processor. Only prob was the honey turned into little chunks throughout-I so need a Vitamix.
Add rum and it’s a frozen “Mai Tai”!
Anyone try in a NutriBullet??
Yes my nutrition bullet worked great!
Made it in the food processor. My son and I both loved it! Thank you.
Looks delicious! Could you make it with canned pineapple chunks?
Yes, I am a chef and you just dice the canned pineapples and chop or blend to your own consistency then follow the directions and reblend it all together so that it isn’t chunky
Just made this for breakfast using coconut milk. Kids loved it and so did I!
Better with fresh pineapple
Does it need to be nondairy milk?
I did with frozen peache pieces today, delish
I have never tried this and sounds delicious but Dole makes a Yonana which takes frozen fruit and makes instant sorbet without adding anything else. It’s amazing. Target sells them for $50
For the last 10 + years it is also at the MN state fair. There is a couple there that opened a stand because they love dole whip so much.
Eating this right now. Sooooo delicious and totally satisfying my sweet too. Gonna try it with other frozen fruits.
I no longer have any icetrays what else would you suggest
I liked this recipe and it’s easey enough to make. I would make it again.
About how long to you find this needs to blend for? Def trying!
It’s usually done in less than a minute when I use the tamper in my Vitamix!
Seems like the one use zip lock bag is an environmental waste.
Yes it is. You can use a reusable piping bag instead, or just serve it with a spoon!
I love this recipe! I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and Stevia, it was such a treat 🙂
I made this today using the coconut milk alternative. The texture is way soupy. I added more frozen pineapple to the Vitamix and ended up with blended pineapple smoothie. Woohoo. My daughter and I were not happy.
I loved making it. Now I don’t have to go back to the Dole Plantation in Hawaii.
I would like to make this to take as a dessert option. Would it travel well?
It melts pretty fast, so I’m not sure this is the best dessert for traveling. It has the best texture when it’s freshly blended.
Could you use regular milk?
This was amazing! Me and my family will make this again
Good but needs more bite. The next time I’ll try coconut milk.
Can this be made with canned pineapple, frozen? I can’t find already frozen pineapple anywhere, and I need to make this for about 60 people, so cutting fresh is just not feasible…
Delicious and very easy! I used 3c frozen pineapple, 1.5c of macadamia nut milk, 1tbsp of swerve and it turned out great!
Is this dole whip creamy or is it like milk
Can you replace the pineapple with other fruits? Like mangoes and strawberries. Or do a combo of fruits?
Sure, I don’t see why not! I’d love to hear what you try.
I did this I froze the pineapple to long it wasn’t like a ice cream it was a drink so I froze it.
This recipe would ne fantastic with frozen banana, OJ, frozen pineapple with optional scoop of vanilla ice cream and rum. Not for kids.
I am excited about the recipe
Haven’t made it yet but can you use tinned or fresh pineapple instead of frozen?
We tried this tonight exactly as written and it was simply divine!
This dole whip was INCREDIBLE!! So similar to the real thing and without the guilt! My husband loved it too. He couldn’t believe it!
Is dole whip recommend for diabetics
Hi! Looks yummy! Can I blend and refreeze to scoop later?
