Hope you enjoy them, too!
Well I’ll miss the cleanse journal, I always loved keeping up with it but keep us posted on how you decide to tweak things, how you feel, etc.
This vanilla-cado yumminess looks wonderful 🙂
I will definitely keep you updated! 😀
HAHA! I love your doctoring of that first image 😛
Vanilla-cado…now that’s what I’m talking about! I like vanilla way more than chocolate.
Holy crap, you lost 10 pounds? Where’d you lose it FROM?! That’s amazing. Maybe I should do this thing…
I’m totally sold on vanilla over chocolate, too!! YUM.
And, yes, the candida cleanse has been surprisingly effective up to this point! We should get together next time I’m in town and catch-up! 🙂
I’m totally impressed by your results. Way to go!
Yes, we should! Let me know the next time you’ll be here. Hopefully some of my recipe-testing madness will have died down by then… 🙂
That smoothie sounds delicious — I need to make that soon.
Yes the week is flying by and I love it! Short workweeks are the best.
I am totally going to make this this week. I started a month detox quite similar to a candida cleanse and can use some helpful recipes 🙂
Do you ever drink alcohol? I am taking this month off, but I do enjoy the occasional glass of wine and just want to become more aware of how often I have it [because I usually end up eating things I don’t even want or need to when I am drinking]
Yes, alcohol usually makes me eat things I normally wouldn’t! Since I’m such a light-weight, even one glass can make a big difference!
I think I had one glass of wine during my last month of cleansing, but that’s about how often I have it anyway… I’m just not much of a drinker. I’d rather have chocolate any day! 😀
“there should be an avocado-milkshake category on the new food pyramid” – we totally agree with you girl on that!!!! And great job with your first month with Candida! You go girl!!
Thanks for posting your ‘cado-shake recipes. I tried a chocolate one tonight (dairy milk) with powdered stevia extract and it was deeeeevine.
Yay! Glad you liked it!! 😀
I was really enjoying your cleanse journal because I am battling Candida myself so it was helpful to see what you were trying! Please keep us updated!
I agree with AMber…Like the doctoring of the first pic!! I have paired chocolate with avocado but never vanilla…I have 3/4 of an avocado in my fridge waiting to be turned into this smoothie!!!
ooh I love anything vanilla so I need to try this asap!! Too bad I dont have any avocados around 🙁
Vanilla over chocolate any day! You are such a talented recipe artist! I’m happy that your candida cleanse has been successful so far. The more that we spread the word about this common health concern, hopefully the more that the general public will learn about it.
Have a great day and a fun weekend. Take care!
I thought of you today on my way out of Trader Joes. I popped in after lunch to pick up something for an afternoon snack – I decided on those goat cheese slices…. and then somewhere along the way to the checkout I somehow managed to pick up some dark chocolate. I looked down at my purchases and just had to laugh and share this story with you. From one goat cheese and dark chocolate devotee to another!
Ha ha, love it!! 🙂
Just received my Nut Bag in the mail. Can’t wait to make some fresh almond milk later today….and then for some yummy shakes! Have a great week!
Can’t find the almond milk recipe you posted a while back when you got your nut bag. I wanted to use your recipe because I have a vitamix and I remember that is how you made yours. Please help. THANK YOU!
Here you go!

(I used the recipe that came on my bag– but instead of agave, I only used 1 T. maple syrup instead. YUM!!)
Hey Megan,
I’m catching up…why did you do the cleanse? Were you diagnosed with Candida?? I assume you were if you seen it “leaving your body”…ick!…what is that even like?!
I appreciate that you aren’t posting “dailies” – they are very triggering and “dangerous” in the blog world, in magazines, books, anywhere. And yes, everyone is so different and eating habits change so we should never claim to be a certain thing because guaranteed it will change again. I’m also not a fan of cleanses unless they are necessary or medically supervised, but I’ll keep those opinions to myself 😉
Also, the shake – how would I get it to be nice and thick?
After my Advanced Detox Training in NYC, I knew that I had many symptoms of Candida and wanted to try a cleanse– which ultimately confirmed that I did, in fact, suffer from Candida overgrowth! (It’s estimated that 89% of Americans suffer from Candida overgrowth and don’t know it– so I wasn’t surprised that I was one of them!)
I’m also not a fan of “quick-fix” cleanses. I don’t believe that 21-day detox programs fix anything, unless you’re willing to make lifelong changes that will last, rather than rebounding into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. 😉 This cleanse is actually on-going for me, so it’s more of a lasting-lifestyle change where I will gradually start incorporating fruits and grains again in a few months. Candida can take months to kill-off, so I’m listening to my body until then!
For the shake, it’s best if you have a high-powered blender than can crush ice easily– my Vita-Mix makes it like ice cream!! But the ripe avocado will make it thick, regardless, and then you can play with the amount of ice you use.
i LOVE blending avocado in smoothies! it makes them so thick, frothy and delicious! thank you for the recipe! efinatly trying it with cinnamon next time!!!
Even though it’s a “delicate” topic, which you blog about so gracefully btw, I’m glad your willing to talk about cleanse elimination symptoms. I wasn’t trying to do a candida cleanse but since I’m allergic to wheat, millet spelt, tapioca, corn, potatoes, basically Starchy Carbs… I cut out processed foods and almost all grains. Then to make myself drink more water, I cut all beverages but water. Then I decided vegetables were healthier and to fit more into my diet, I cut my fruit intake to one serving a day. This all definitely causes a major detox and I knew the symptoms to expect but I noticed one symptom that worried me. I knew intestine irritation could cause such a symptom so I thought I must be missing something and exposing myself to one of my allergies. I’ve been reading every label and worrying that I was allergic to something they didn’t test for and wondering how I will ever figure out what it is. Thanks to you mentioning this delicate issue, I googled it and now I’m not worried and it confirms I’m really doing something good for myself… That I’m really taking the steps to give my body what it needs and help it heal itself. Thank you for saving me an awkward visit to a doctor who probably wouldn’t know anything, would order some expensive tests, and in the end probably give me an inaccurate, broad, blanket diagnosis of IBS and prescribe me a daily dose of poison that causes more problems than it could ever solve.
I’m having this milkshake for breakfast right now and it is so delicious!! 🙂 Thank you for all of the great recipes!
When you say “Stevia to taste” for one of your smoothie recipes, how many drops do you typically use? Thanks so much!
Just made this after a sweaty yoga session. SO refreshing and yummy!!
Thanks!
If this is cleansing, I’m all for it! Wonderfully delicious!
Drinking this right now..delicious! I never use ice in my smoothies or drinks, so I threw in a frozen banana to give it that frothy, icy-cold milkshake texture. 🙂
I am curious how you got a white drink from this, though. Mine is green.
I have Candida & have been battling it since I’m 21, now I am 37 & THANK GOD for your website, I have been doing great for 3 weeks now! However, I thought on a Candida free diet, Cocoa was not allowed? or honey or agave??
This has a great flavor and texture. Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge and all the great recipes. I have just started my journey in attempting to radically change my eating habits. I have found comfort in your site. You make it so much easier. Thank you
I’ve been off dairy for 18 years, and off sugar for 3, and oh my God, when I finally made this milkshake tonight, I leaned against the wall and practically cried.
I have no words for you that can describe the gratitude I feel.
alcohol is NOT allowed on a candida cleanse. check the extracts.
You can easily find alcohol-free vanilla, if you prefer.
would this be a good detox smoothie for the morning after a binge? I really need something to re-stabilize the morning after a binge 🙁
Suggestions for a smoothie that will be good for a magic bullet (tiny blender, not high powder), thick/creamy (I assume that might be nicer than a “runny ” smoothie?) , and I guess one that will “reset ” my body for the day ahead? If it could include protein powder, even better maybe (20 or 30 gram scoop?) since it might prevent me from binging again later…thanks.
Megan,
Your website has been a life saver! I’ve had systemic candida since January and every time I kept veering of the diet it would come back even worse! This milkshake is my savior! I forgot to buy almond extract so I used a teensy bit of nutmeg and it is wonderful! Now that I found your website it will be easy to stay on the cleanse until my candida is fully gone!!!
If you have any other good ideas please send them my way.
Jayne 🙂
Call it a vanillacado or choco-cado, it’s been our breakfast now for ages. This recipe comes directly from Brazil. Blend avocado with milk or coconut water & presto..! My personal favourite regular twist is now done w a banana, and if I have strawberries or blueberries then they’re in there too! Since juicing I’m adding coco milk with the milk or water for the xtra fat. A bit of psylium here gives U fibre you won’t notice***, a kiss of honey, agave or stevia gives a bit of sweetness. Done deal!! Cinnamon adds antioxidants. An Absolutely Awesome Filling Breakfast! So Tasty!! Greig M
As I mentioned for chococado, a spoonfull of hemp protein when we have it will add that extra over the top bit of fuel for the day. All natural ingredients! We abso LOVE avocados so this gets devoured in no time. We use a tall glass w a hand blender, done in minutes at the start of a new day! Soo Yummie!! Greig M
hey I am interested in this recipe but I’m from UK and I can not find liquid stevia. Can I use powder stevia or use other alternative
Love!!! Just tried this and it is delicious.
I’m curious is there anything one can substitute for the avocado? I’m allergic to it. Thanks.
Hi Megan
I absolutely adore your blog and your recipes you make from scratch. I have a question. The avocados that grow on my tree are massive. Each one weighing upto a kilo or more. How many grams approximately Of avocado would I need for this recipe?
I need to try this asap, it looks heavenly.
The avocados I typically use tend to average about 1/2 cup when mashed.
I halved the recipe and didnt have enough ice so I used frozen bananas. All tasted very strange and thought the stevia added a weird flavor. Would using more ice help?
This is one of my favorite recipes! It’s my go to for a sweet snack or a quick breakfast. My toddler can’t get enough either.
I also recommend it to my clients who are going on a candida cleanse and they are loving it as well, thanks for providing such amazing value!
I make one of these 2 or 3 times a week. Just stirred a little into my coffee and it made it creamy and frothy, yum!
Delicious! It tastes just like a vanilla milk shake!
